During the winter season it can be hard to stay positive and keep your mental health steady. The early nights, no sunshine, cold weather and the “gloomy” world that shifts during winter can all make it much more difficult to find motivation.
Living in Colorado gives us many more winter activity options. Skiing and snowboarding are always very common activities to get you out of the house and enjoying physical activity. Although this winter has been limited to snow further up in the mountains, there are still skiing options.
At home, there are always little things that you can do that will help keep your mind clear. Having a clean bedroom and keeping your space organized will help create a welcoming space for you at the end of a long day. Simply making your bed can make such a difference in your daily routine.
When people think of a New Year’s resolution, most people think of the things they told themselves they were going to change about their lives but never quite got around to. New Year’s resolutions can actually help with motivation during this time of year more than you may think. The simple idea of having a goal and working towards it, can be so motivating if you plan it properly.
Simple things like making a vision board and putting it somewhere you see everyday can change your mindset. Seeing that reminder of your goals visually can encourage you to continue with those goals past just saying you’re going to work on it.
Staying active within your regular schedule is so important for your mental health. Moving your body a few times a week or a little bit every day helps you stay grounded during the constant rush of this season. Activity clears your head and does something positive for your physical and mental health.
Spending time with friends and family is another critical part of keeping your spirits up. I always feel so much better after just seeing my close friends and doing something fun. Whether that be staying home and watching a movie or going out to dinner. Interaction with people in your life you enjoy being around always puts positive energy back into your cup.
At the end of the day, do what makes you feel good and fills up your cup! It is so important to prioritize yourself and keep up with your mental health all times of the year. Keep up with the little thing and make life fun.
