“Project Hail Mary” has been flooding social media and everyone wants to know if it’s really worth their time–running at 2 hours plus. I’m going to say that it absolutely is!
As any science-fiction book lover would know, this movie is based on the book by Andy Weir written in 2021.
This story follows the main character Ryland Grace, played by everyone’s favorite Ken, Ryan Gosling, and his adventure to space to save his planet. When he wakes up from his coma he has no memory of who he was or what was going on. Along the way he finds a friend and builds a connection with him in hopes to save both of their homes. Before Grace is selected to be a part of Project Hail Mary he was a 6th grade science teacher with a passion for the same scientific studies they were desperately searching for answers.
“Project Hail Mary” is 2 hours and 37 minutes long. Which seems like a very long time until you’re sitting in the theater completely immersed in this movie. This movie is worth seeing while still in theaters because of its stunning visuals. The filming of this movie is truly like no other. See it on the big screen!
When I was sitting in the theater, I thought that it vaguely reminded me of something from my childhood. Immediately after, I realized that the comedy of this movie reminded me so much of the 2015 cartoon “Home.” They are completely different movies but the comedy and the way you get to love the characters and have wholesome moments really made me connect the two.
Going into this movie, I had only really heard about how sad it was and to prepare yourself to cry. And I’m not going to say I didn’t cry, but it was also hilarious and such a heartwarming film overall. If you’ve read the book, you know what happens, but I don’t want to give any spoilers.
Another thing I loved about this film was its amazing storytelling. There were so many little details and spots in the filming that you could tell were purposeful. These moments for me were the more dramatic moments that made you truly feel like you were right there with him.
I think this movie is absolutely worth watching while it’s still in theaters for the full experience. The music, visuals ,big screen, and, of course, the snacks, all make the experience 10/10. Even if you can’t make it to the theaters, watching from home when it is on streaming services is worth the wait. This movie is beautiful, hilarious, and it is absolutely worth your 2 hours and 37 minutes.
“Project Hail Mary” is rated PG-13 and is still currently in theaters.
