Valentines Day at the Rock Stop

The Peers have always looked for creative ways to fundraise every year by helping the Lobos show appreciation to others on Valentine’s Day.

They host an annual fundraiser around Valentine’s Day. Starting the week of Valentine’s Day, any student can go to the Rocks during lunch and purchase Valentine’s Day candy for his or her significant other and friends. Candies are only a quarter, and all purchases go to services like Give Next and other related services. Recent projects have revolved around the increasing homelessness population of Fort Collins. “Hosting the fundraiser is more about the joy and appreciation our community has for each other,” says Peers leader Kelley Madden, “seeing the kid’s bliss for each other is priceless.”

Every member of the Peer program participates in this event. After selling the sweets, the Peers show up to a handful of classes, dressed up in various Valentine’s Day costumes and outfits to dance around the rooms and spread Valentine’s Day love. While they only dance in roughly five classes, they personally deliver the candies to every student who receives one.

The Peers themselves take pride in the fundraiser. “This time of the year is an extremely stressful and work-filled time for almost every student; running around the school spreading fun and joy is good for all,” says first-year Peer Aaron Lambert.

The Peers Program has been hosting this and many other fundraisers for years. With costumes, sweet-treats, and love being spread, who doesn’t want this one in specific to come around?
