Possibilities are endless for opportunities after high school. Whatever path you choose could determine your career and your very future–whether it be community college, college, or maybe even cosmetology school.

There are over a million practicing hairstylists in the US and there are approximately 3,500 cosmetology schools teaching hairdressing with between 20 and 100 students coming out of each school per year. If you’re interested in beauty school school here are some things to know.

Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment, whether it be hair styling, makeup, skin care, or nails. Cosmetology school not only teaches people skills with beauty it also provides students with information on business management and growth, giving them the opportunity to potentially run a business one day.

There are over 30 beauty schools in Colorado to choose from. Attending an accredited cosmetology school will usually cost anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000. To attend a top beauty school will usually cost anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000

To apply to beauty school you first have to meet the age requirements and educational requirements. You have to be at least 16 years old with a high school diploma or GED to enter, but you can go at any age above that. You can first schedule a tour to check out the school to gather more information and see if it fits your goals.

Unlike colleges, beauty school allows you to complete your training in as little as eight months or up to two years depending on if you decide to pursue your education full or part-time.

If you want to become a full cosmetologist in Colorado and enjoy the freedom and flexibility to perform a wide variety of treatments and services, you have to first complete a cosmetology program that consists of at least 60 credit hours.
