Rocky Mountain Wellness Team
The Rocky Mountain Wellness Team has an important behind the scenes impact on many of the day-to-day activities and yearly events that take place at Rocky. The Wellness Team helps to promote wellness throughout the Lobo community and beyond even though there are currently fewer than ten student team members.
“This club is a group of students who meet once a week to promote wellness at Rocky. We plan a bunch of different events throughout the year to try to involve students staff and feeder schools in promoting different facets of wellness, whether it’s mental wellness,or physical activity, emotional wellness stress relief things like that,” teacher and supervisor of Wellness Team Jamie Quiros said.
Wellness Team isn’t a super well known club at Rocky, but they are involved in numerous events and they actively work to improve Rocky every day.
“We participate in a lot of different events. We start the beginning of the year with Lobo Fest; each year we help with Adopt-a-Family, and we plan a Health and Wellness Day. We are currently working on a Wellness 5k with our feeder schools. Students should join Wellness Team because it’s a great leadership opportunity, and it’s a fun way for students to contribute back to the Lobo community,” Quiros said.
The Wellness Team is a fun way to give back to the community, as well as a great way to learn about health and wellness and leadership. It does not require as much commitment or time as clubs like STUCO, but it is another opportunity to get involved.
“My favorite part about being on the Wellness Team is that we get to make a difference in the wellness community which is really cool because not a lot of people don’t know what wellness is or how to be healthy beyond just physical health. I like that we have the opportunity to connect all around Rocky with many different kids and help with any aspect of wellness. And I love that Wellness Team really has become a family and it’s a wonderful thing, the impact we make at Rocky, “Wellness Team President Natalie Ford said.
The Wellness Team is currently looking for new members after many in their already small group will graduate this spring. Especially since teaming up with Raintree Athletic Club, there are so many activities Wellness Team are involved in; they would love for new members to join!
“Rocky Wellness Team is awesome because we do so many things just to make sure our students and our staff incorporate wellness in everything that we do at Rocky: so for instance we get to go to the Youth Wellness Summit that the district puts on every year, and we get to learn about our bodies and our brains and how to better promote wellness into our community. And we add wellness bags to Adopt-a-Family and we put on Wellness Day every year, and we give teachers brain break bags so that teachers can get their students moving in fun ways, and any other ideas that our team members come up with,” counselor and supervisor of Wellness Team Kelly Glick said.
Wellness Club meets once a week, usually on Wednesdays, in Mrs. Quiros’ room 319. More information can be found by talking to Mrs. Quiros, Mrs. Glick, or the Wellness team President, Natalie Ford.
