Film Festival

Free Fun for Friday Night

The RMHS Film Fest this Friday will give students a unique opportunity to view their peers’ artwork in the form of film making.

The Film Fest was created by video teacher Ron Clark in 2014 to showcase student’s film on the big screen. Much like an art show or recital, the Film Fest is a way to honor the work that film students are making, which Clark claims is impressive.“It is a chance to show the whole school, the community, and anybody else who wants to come the really cool things that kids are doing with video,” said Clark.

“There’s just really good work happening,” said Clark. “Art and music all have ways for everyone to see what they’re doing…we can’t really do that with video. This is just a chance for people to see what’s going on [in the film department].”

In addition to offering unique opportunities to student filmmakers, their work will be displayed to a panel of community judges. These five judges work with graphic design or film in their respective organizations or companies. “[The judges] are professionals; they do this for a living,” said Clark. “They come every year to judge, so that also helps to get the word out.”

One of these judges, Shane Miles, is excited to see what this year’s Film Fest holds.“I love to see the creativity of students in film and design,” said Miles. “Overall, the level of work is impressive. Every year I leave feeling inspired by what the students have created.”

Miles has been a judge at the Film Fest for three years, since the creation of the event. He says that he “can’t wait to see more amazing work.”

Clark urges all students to attend.

“Just come watch our films. They’re going to be good. It’s going to be a great show,” said Clark. “I really do feel like the films get better and better every year. I don’t think this year is any exception.”
