Healthcare in the United States is becoming more and more expensive and a change needs to be made. Many families have to choose between getting the healthcare they need and having the finances they need to live comfortably.
Lack of healthcare affordability is harming individual health as people are avoiding getting the care they need because they worry about their ability to pay for healthcare bills. Skipping care can cause more significant and harmful impacts later in life.
No one should have to choose between getting the care they need and also living comfortably. Healthcare expenses are increasing which is leading to shifts in household budgets. People are starting to be unable to afford the things that they used to.
If healthcare was cheaper many people would be able to live healthier and not have to stress about going into debt. Many people avoid getting the healthcare that they need which is keeping them from taking care of themselves and their families.
Having a baby in the US costs an average of $20,000 with insurance. Not to mention all the extra fees and the chance of a NICU stay which can increase hospital bills up to four times. This makes it extremely hard for NICU parents to pay for hospital bills while they are already going through a hard time.
Even with insurance healthcare is still unaffordable for most. A lot of healthcare spending doesn’t even go to direct care. This leads to barriers in accessing healthcare and medical debt which is a primary cause of personal bankruptcy in the United States.
There are many ways we can help make healthcare more affordable. Reducing the price of prescription medication can make it easier for people to get the medication they need, overall helping them stay healthy and spend less on care long term.
Supporting policies that help people get access to healthcare like Medicaid or Medicare can be really beneficial. Regulating prices across hospitals would also help, ensuring that patients are paying the same for services no matter where it is provided.
Focusing on preventive care would help reduce long-term care costs that might come from not getting the treatment needed. Being more transparent with prices would help patients be able to understand what they are paying for before they have to pay it.
Healthcare is a right that everyone should have no matter what situation they are in. Getting the care that you need should not conflict with the price you have to pay. A change needs to be made so that everyone can get the care that they deserve and need.

This is super informative and I love how you used birth expenses in the U.S as a main example because it truly is insane and not many people realize how much it costs until they are in that position. I 100% agree but even for those who I don’t, I think you built a very strong perspective for them to put themselves in and made it clear that everyone is affected by unaffordable healthcare!
