On Friday, September 29th, the Rocky Mountain High School staff and student body gathered in the gym for their second assembly of the year. Put on by the student council, the Homecoming assembly celebrated the school spirit at Rocky as well as Rocky alumni.
“Homecoming is such a big part of this school’s culture, especially because we have so many alumni staff. We really wanted to make sure everyone felt appreciated and recognized, and taking extra time to make decorations was just one thing we could do to show appreciation for our staff and students,” said sophomore class representative Kacy Larson.
At 10:30 a.m. the band played as students walked into the gym and filled the bleachers. The Rocky Mountain Singers performed the National Anthem and then the fun began.
Continuing the tradition of $5 Friday, “Big Bands” Ben and the spirit leaders run onto the gym floor to announce the winner, upping the prize to $50 for Homecoming. Tye Frank was this year’s lucky homecoming winner.
Every year the student body nominates the Homecoming Pack and then votes during homecoming week; the nominees of this year’s pack were announced by the emcees of their respective grades.
Freshmen emcees Ellie Green and Blake Livengood announced the pack nominees; Caleb Emery, Nicholas Day, Kenzie Klih, Ryan Freeman, Parker Lopatowski, and Blake Livengood.
Sophomore emcees, Avery Eckman and Ryan Alsburg ran on the gym floor and announced the sophomore pack nominees; Zion Downing, Yuosef Mohamed, Sean Bray, Rowan Foy, Rose Kensora, and Kaitie Bly Kicklighter.
Junior emcees, Taylor Slauson and Lindsey Kaines announced their class nominees; Ben Lindstedt, Daniel Mitchell, Jamie Sawyer, Ivan Austen Groen, Hadar Frank, and Taylor Slauson.
Student body president, Kaylee Hughes, and senior emcee, Amelia Schooley announced the last set of pack nominees; Sam Himot, Blake Agnew, Daelan Gonzales, Agatha Borchert, Currie Zafarana, and Josephine DeMaret.
The pack leaders from each class were announced by the student body president and vice president, Curry Zafarana and Hadley Newcomer. The winners were Kenzy Kloth and Caleb Emery (freshmen), Rose Kensora and Yuosef Mohamed (sophomores), Taylor Slauson and Jamie Sawyer (juniors), and Josephine DeMaret and Blake Agnew (seniors).
DECA reps. gave information on Cans Around the Boval; homeroom classes have until the 13th of October to collect as much money and cans as they can to win a pizza party in their class. Teachers who brought cans were asked to come and put them in a cart in the middle of the gym, and then DECA wheeled the cart away.
The games at the homecoming assembly were played by both staff and students. The first game was a rap battle between two teams. Team 1, made up of Officer Click, Mr. Lyell, and Cole Anderson, and Team 2, made up of Mr. Wells, Ms. Asevedo, and Mr. Crist. After a hearty applause from the student body, Team 2 was announced as the winner.
The second game was between staff and the pack nominees. The first round was between the freshmen and junior nominees and staff, with the staff winning the first round. The second round was between the senior and sophomore nominees and the staff, with the pack nominees taking the win.
“I really liked the tug of war. Especially when the freshman got destroyed and then we won,” sophomore Alex Madsen said.
The final game was between athletic representatives from boy’s tennis, volleyball, unified cheer, unified football, boy’s soccer, gymnastics, boy’s golf, football, softball, and cross country. They participated in a game of dodgeball, with the boy’s soccer team winning.
The unified cheer team, dance team, and cheer team each gave performances at the assembly. The unified cheer team led the school in the Marching cheer and the cheer team led the “Let’s Go ‘Bos!” cheer.
Information on the Homecoming dance was announced by the main emcees, telling students that the dance would start the next day, September 30th, at 8:00 p.m. and tickets would be $20 at the door.
The assembly closed out with the cheer and football teams gathering on the floor of the gym to sing the alma mater, and students were then dismissed back to their second-period classes.
