Five dollar Friday

Does everyone have a fair shot at making it rain on $5 Fridays? Short answer, yes. However, a rumor is circulating that $5 Friday (the three year old school tradition where a student is selected for a chance to win cash in their first period on Friday morning for wearing Rocky clothing) is no longer random and that the system has somehow changed so that STUCO members can pick who receives the money. This rumor is false.

Some members of the student body, however, are under the impression that $5 Friday is not a random drawing for which student receives the money. This is untrue, and $5 Friday is the same as it has always been.

“We use a list of everyone at the school for $5 Friday,” student council member Teagan Liufau said. “The process is totally random.”

“I have a list of the student body in a file on my desk,” STUCO adviser Virginia Cox said. “I take a random page from the list, drop a marker on the list without looking at it, and then whoever’s name has the ink on it is chosen.”

Rumors that $5 Friday can be tampered with by student council members are false, and the process remains a random drawing where everyone has the same chance of being chosen.

Gear up, Rocky. Anyone could be next.
