H-O-R-S-E

As sports and events were cancelled, the National Basketball Association came up with an entertainment challenge of H-O-R-S-E, courtesy of State Farm. There were many notable basketball players in this competition, such as Trae Young, Tamika Catchings, Zach Lavine, and many more. ESPN’s Mark Jones offered commentary for this competition. The first round was held April 12th and the second round will be held on April 16th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The competition, held on ESPN, was about two hours.

This competition was created to help relieve stress for people due to the current circumstances with the pandemic of Covid-19 and to appeal to sports fans missing out on all sports right now.

There are many aspects to take into consideration when viewing this competition. The cornerstones include competitiveness, level of entertainment, and player favorability.
The NBA did a great job putting this together and recruiting a wide variety of players from WNBA players to retired NBA players.

The competitiveness between the contestants was not very high; this was expected because players were mainly brought to have a good time and bring a good time to the viewers as well.

The level of entertainment was very high; this was because there are many comedic and highly talented athletes included, from dunk champions, hall of famers, to finals MVPs.

When it comes to player favorability, there were many aspects that are good for the fans. For example, they had Denver Nuggets legend, Chauncey Billups who would brought entertainment for Colorado basketball fans. Due to the wide array of players, player favorability was very high for this competition.

All in all, this competition was very solid all around and entertaining. It touched all three cornerstones that a competition like this should. With an expected low level of competitiveness, a high level of entertainment, and a wide array of players, this was the perfect event the NBA could have put together.

I am sure that there will be more of these stand alone events within the next few weeks. Until then, I am looking forward to April 16th to find out who will take home the H-O-R-S-E champions trophy!
