Booming Blockbusters: 2019’s Biggest Upcoming Movies
American cinema defines US culture, attitudes, and ideals. 2018 was a huge year in cinema, showcasing movies such as “Black Panther,” “Incredibles 2,” and “Avengers-Infinity War.” 2019 has big shoes to fill. Many of 2019’s most anticipated movies are sequels, remakes, or reboots that should draw crowds from many different age groups. The following 10 movies could shape up to be the biggest of the year.
1. January 11th, 2019: Hellboy
In a film directed by Neil Marshall, Lionsgate brings a Hellboy reboot. Actors David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, and Ian McShane collaborate to recreate this film. Many have said Hellboy didn’t need a reboot, but will probably still jump at a chance to see a new production of it.
- February 8th, 2019: The Lego Movie: The Second Part
The sequel to the famous Lego Movie comes out in February. Chris Pratt stars in the anticipated follow up to the first movie five years ago.
- March 8th, 2019: Captain Marvel
The start of the Captain Marvel series introduces the world to superhero Carol Danvers played by Brie Larson. Directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck bring the first new Marvel series since Dr. Strange. Many say this movie could start to clear up the mystery about the ending of Avengers: Infinity War.
- May 3rd, 2019: Untitled Avengers Movie
Bringing back The Avengers for another battle–the 4th Avengers movie should bring a resolution to the constant battle between the heroes of Earth and the superlative power of Thanos.
- May 31st, 2019: Godzilla: King of Monsters
Godzilla is back in action facing off against new monsters Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah. New director Michael Dougherty takes over Godzilla with a star cast including Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Kyle Chandler, Sally Hawkins, and Ken Watanabe.
- June 21st, 2019: Toy Story 4
Director Josh Cooley brings back the Toy Story series for a 4th movie. The movie series has a stunning 99% critic rating. This movie is destined for success with returning stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, and Laurie Metcalf.
- July 3rd, 2019: Untitled Annabelle Sequel
Director Gary Dauberman comes back to direct a sequel of the successful movie about a doll named Annabelle. He formerly directed the first Annabelle movie and IT.
- July 5th, 2019: Spider-Man: Far From Home
Director Jon Watts brings another Spiderman movie where Peter Parker takes on Mysterio in a wild battle. The movie gets a lot of credibility from the star cast featuring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal, Marisa Tomei, and Michael Keaton.
- July 19th, 2019: The Lion King
The live action remake of the classic movie The Lion King comes in July. The movie should draw a wide range of viewers, making it a popular summer blockbuster. This movie is boosted by star actors Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, and Alfre Woodard.
- September 6th, 2019: It: Chapter Two
Director Andy Muschietti brings the second It movie featuring Pennywise the clown. This sequel takes place 30 years later when Pennywise comes back and meets the same group again. The new actors for this movie will be Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, and Bill Skarsgård.
