Spring Sprints

Need a little inspiration as the weather getting warmer? Swimsuit season is coming up fast! Fort Collins offers an abundance of runs in next few months that are supporting local causes.

Check out the Twin Silo Sprint on Saturday April 28th. This is a 5K starting at 9:00 am in the Fossil Ridge High School parking lot. Registering is easy look at . There is also a free kids run starting at 8:45; it’s only a mile long. This is a benefit run for local scholarships for Northern Colorado youth. There will be local sponsors there like Mathnasium, Scheels, Fort Collins Running Club, and more.

Another inspiration run going on May 5th is Kate’s Warrior Walk. This is a 4K walk/run that will be taking place at Ridgeview Park, 4700 Hinsdale Drive, just North of McGraw Elementary School, and  starts at 9:00 am. The proceeds from this race go to the Prewett family. Their daughter Kate was diagnosed with brain cancer earlier this school year. The recommended donation is $25 for one person, and $50 for a family. If you are unable to go, but would still love to donate to help with the family’s expenses, please go to . There will be chances to win prizes and 100% of the donations will be given directly to Kate. As the flier states, there will be “Lots of high fives and hugs!”

May 3rd there is a Bob Turner Classic 5K taking place from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm in Berthoud. This race is a “fundraiser that supports the athletic and academic needs of the students at Turner Middle School.” It only costs $30 for admission and all funds go to children at Turner Middle School.

On April 21st there will be a race held around the Windsor Lake called The Rockin’ For Recovery 5K and Fun Run. It benefits local organizations that assist families and individuals in recovery from all forms of addictions. Packet pickup is on April 20th at Brickhouse Functional Fitness between 4:00 pm-6:00 pm. This 5k will start at 8:30 am on the 21st. There is also a kids race at 9:30 am. The top finishers will receive prizes following the kids run.

If you’re feeling really ambitious, the Bolder Boulder is celebrating its 40th anniversary. This race is a 10k and always has a huge turnout for Memorial Day weekend–over 50,000 runners last year. There are different waves for the race based on how fast you run, the first one starts at 6:55 am. Our “Memorial Day Tribute is the nation’s largest Memorial Day celebration. We offer discounts to active military members, and our base races allow over 2,000 military personnel to run their own BolderBOULDER at dozens of U.S. bases and posts around the world; even aboard US Navy ships.” The race also supports local groups who volunteer at the race–school and club groups.
