Tires Can Be the Line Between Safe Winter Drive and Icy Car Crash
When the winter season comes, driving in the snow can be a very challenging feat for those not used to it.
As a seasoned veteran myself, I have seen a lot of snow driving and can offer you some advice.
The most important part is having a vehicle that is suited and ready to drive with fresh tires with a thick tread. Tread makes the tire stick to the ground and allows the driver to have maximum control of the vehicle. Replacing tires may be an inconvenience, but it could save a life. The danger of not having a lot of tread is that your tires could lock up causing your to vehicle slide and leaving you with no control.
If new tires are not an option, an alternative route is getting snow chains. Snow chains wrap around your tires and act like tread. In my opinion, snow chains are not the best way to go. The snow chain is a faster and cheaper solution, and most tire shops will not service you unless you make an appointment, sometimes weeks in advance. Snow chains can be a quicker solution when it does snow. However, snow tires are a long term solution while snow chains aren’t ideal when the road conditions change.
There are still some precautions to be taken to help be safe on the road. When driving in snowy conditions, keep in mind that there’s usually a lower visibility and slicker conditions. To avoid car crashes, drive slower to keep from swerving and and stay away from other cars. The best way to keep safe on snowy roads is to pay attention.
Teens are notorious for poor driving in severe weather conditions and having appropriate tires is an important precautions that can be taken to make the road safer for the driver and people around them.
