This is the first segment of our new series, You Should Take This Class! The series will feature student recommendations on classes to take and why. If you’re interested in writing in with your recommendations, you still can here. We’ll add more as we receive them.
“For students hoping to use Junior year as their transition into AP Courses, Madison’s AP Lang is a great choice, as it provides the same AP title and coursework at a much slower and more manageable pace. It serves as an excellent confidence booster and is the perfect choice for students who want the academic rigour but have not taken an AP level course before, as it allows them a safe space to begin uplifting their academic prowess without the fear of a violent shove into the challenging coursework of an AP level course.” – Ezry Bonomo, grade 12
“I recommend sociology! The workload is probably in between the workloads for psychology and AP psychology so it’s pretty manageable if you keep up with it. In this class you learn a lot about why society is the way it is, social issues, and about how people interact in a society. We did multiple social experiments which could be out of your comfort zone but is actually really interesting to be the one doing the experiment and not just learning about it. One experiment I did was smiling and saying ‘Hi’ to random people in the hallways and seeing how they reacted, it was definitely something I hadn’t done before and I got a mix of reactions! We also did a couple of presentations where we got to talk about something we were interested in. Overall, Sociology is going to be a good class for you if you are interested in people and how they interact with each other and in a society.” -Zoe Iverson, grade 11
“I mainly recommend [AP US History] because of the teacher, Mr. MacNamee. Even though most teachers at this school are great, MacNamee is my favorite teacher I’ve had here at Rocky. I don’t think I’ve had a class that feels as relaxed and chill, especially for an AP class.” -Samuel Zenisek, grade 11
“I am recommending that if you haven’t, you should take A.P. US History. I took this class with McNamee and it was a ton of fun. You talk about how the US started and you go all the way to the current day. MacNamee is a super nice teacher and was a ton of fun to have.” – James Michaelsen, grade 11
“Cole Anderson is a good teacher. He makes you have fun and enjoy the class. Some assignments were: you get to make a map where you get to create the country, you get to play with LEGO, you get to draw in the world, and you call him his first name. He makes it very engaging and makes you want to come to his class. There are hands-on activities that you get to do.” – Elliot Dezeeuw, grade 11
