Friday, August 23rd, hundreds of students and staff filed into Rocky Mountain High School’s main gym behind the marching band for the first assembly of the year. The energy was high as a variety of activities and announcements took place.
Dr. Woodall, principal of Rocky Mountain High School, announced the 2024-2025 school year would be his last year at the school and expressed his gratitude for having been able to work at the school for twelve years. To close out the assembly, Dr. Woodall and his two kids (senior Nate Woodall and freshman Avery Woodall) took center stage to do the worm to thunderous cheers and whoops.
Following this, Dr. Woodall topped it off by talking about his top ten reasons why he loves the school.
“The number one thing I love about Rocky Mountain High School…” said Dr. Woodall as the drumroll from the spirit band crescendoed…”[is all of you. All of our students.”
Groups such as Peers, the cheer team, and the dance team also had their performances.
To celebrate “40 Years of Peers,” the Peers group performed a choreographed dance to a stitched track of “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga, “Let’s Get it Started” by The Black Eyed Peas, and finally, “Umbrella” by Rihanna that featured actual umbrellas.
Both cheer and dance teams completed flawless routines and led the school in cheers. Some cheers that were taught were familiar, such as “Roller Coaster” or the grade-level chant. Others, such as the “Do It” cheer were new for everyone.
To keep the spirit going, the Student Council organized multiple games.
To introduce some new faces at Rocky, new teachers had to face off in an intense battle of Tug-O-War. An amazing comeback from Team Two lead by Officer Kain Aniliker led to an exciting victory.
Returning teachers Manzanares and Anderson faced off in a heated dance battle with no definitive winner and a riled-up student section. Other returning teachers played a game designed in the style of Family Feud. With Mr. Flygt as the game show host, teachers had to answer questions based on the responses from one hundred Rocky students.
Students played a game of musical chairs mixed with basketball: when the music stopped, students had to run from half court and make a basket, then run back to find a chair before they were all taken. Support and cheers came from all sides as students raced to sick a basket. Malik Godlock came out victorious and celebrated with an ecstatic crowd.
When talking to students about Malik’s victory, many seemed as enthusiastic about it as Malik himself!
The next assembly is October 25 and will highlight Homecoming.
