There are 50 different school-sponsored clubs here at Rocky, with even more, student-sponsored clubs on the way. How can you possibly choose one? Here is information about a few to help you with your decision. This will be an ongoing feature, so check back!
Introducing French Club: – French Club is one of the oldest clubs at Rocky and has been meeting every Thursday at lunch for over 30 years.
In the French Club, students get to learn about French-speaking cultures, eat French food, play games, take fun quizzes, participate in events, and more. Some foods that they have eaten in the past include escargot, crepes, and croissants. Students also get to participate in the Craft Fair. If you enjoy learning about French-speaking culture, music, and food, then this club is for you.
This club is very organized and has specific members in positions of leadership. Hennie Wu is president. Hennie is a senior here at Rocky and has been taking French for six years, she just finished AP French 5 last year. She’s also involved in DECA, FBLA, Key Club, and Model UN.
Ash Wuu- Vice President. Ash is a Senior here and this is their 6th year of studying French. They are also involved in GSA, Speech and Debate, and Cultural Arms.
Vice President Ash Wuu says, “You should join the French Club because it’s fun! And we eat good food, and we cover topics about French-speaking culture. Also, we need more members so that we can keep our funding from the school.” Vice President Ash Wuu explained.
The French Club is one of the oldest clubs in Rocky, and if they don’t get enough members this year, they’ll lose their funding. Join the French club, and keep the legacy alive!
If you’re interested in French culture, eating good food, learning about the French language, and being with other people who enjoy these things, grab your lunch and come to room 308 every Thursday.
Introducing Gardening Club: Gardening Club is another one of Rocky’s lunchtime clubs that meets every Wednesday and Friday. If you enjoy meeting great people and getting involved with nature, this is the club for you!
In the Gardening Club, students get to go out to the greenhouse on the west side of the school and partake in a multitude of different activities, like planting and maintaining plants in the greenhouse, harvesting seeds, building planters and chairs, trimming plants and doing general upkeep of the area.
The staff leader for the Gardening Club is Mrs. Mattisse who has been at Rocky since 2020.
“Rocky was my first job after getting my teaching degree, and I love it here!”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, no one has been at the school to look after the garden, and it fell into disrepair. The Gardening Club was founded to repair and restore the garden back to what it used to be.
“We wanted students to be a part of the reconstruction process, and to make Gardening Club into a place for Lobos to connect and find community,” Matisse explained.
There are no specific skills needed to join, so i you want to be a part of the reconstruction of the garden, or you want a place to connect, then the Gardening Club is for you! Meet in room 506 on Wednesday and Friday during lunch.
If none of the school sponsored clubs appeal to you, you may want to make your own club! Rocky allows student directed clubs of all kinds. If you have an interest and would like to get together with students who have the same interests, consider creating your own club. Right now, the Dungeons and Dragons Club is the only one listed. Find your people and create your own club. You can find the form here and see Mrs. Nickel in the office for more details.
