Every year Rocky celebrates homecoming. The event lasts through the whole week–with a spirit week, a football game, and the homecoming dance. This year, homecoming will take place the last week of September with the game as well as the assembly on the 29th and the dance on the 30th. Homecoming is a great way to get involved in school spirit and support Rocky’s football team.
Spirit days kick off the homecoming week and are great for getting students excited; each day has a planned theme which students use as inspiration to come to school dressed a certain way. Themes in the past have included Adam Sandler, Jerseys, and often Rocky’s school colors. This homecoming week starts on the 25th, and Monday is travel fit day. Tuesday is USA Day; Wednesday is Destination Day; Thursday is Tropical vs. North Pole Day, and Friday is class colors: Freshmen in white, Sophomores in yellow, Juniors in red, and Seniors in black.
The Homecoming assembly is a school event that welcomes back former members of the Rocky community; it takes place on Friday the 29th. This event is about an hour long and gets people ready to show their school pride and their spirit at the game later in the day. StuCo plans the assembly and precedes the most significant homecoming events and reveals this year’s homecoming pack which is decided in school-wide voting.
Later that Friday, Rocky’s football team competes in the homecoming game starting at 7:00 p.m. Students come to show their support through cheers and the Spirit Band gives a soundtrack to the event. The night is given a theme so Rocky’s students can go all out and show some school spirit; this year’s theme is “Blackout” with students wearing black Rocky gear. The members of Rocky’s homecoming pack walk the field at half-time as students, parents, and staff cheer them on. When the game is over people prepare for the dance coming the next day.
The homecoming dance will take place on September 30th from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. and the theme will be “Around The World.” Students spend the night dancing, playing games and eating as a way to bring homecoming week to a close.
This week shows off Rocky’s school spirit and gets everyone excited to be a part of this school’s community. If you’re looking for a way to show some pride as a Rocky student, participating in homecoming week is a great way to do so!
