Rocky Mountain High School hosts a number of events throughout the school year such as dances, Lobo Night, football games, concerts, plays, and more. Going to these events has many benefits for students and is something I’d strongly suggest for all!
To start, school events such as dances and Lobo Night allow students to feel closer to their peers. You are able to make fond memories with your friends and enjoy the company of your peers outside of the classroom. Even if you aren’t someone who enjoys the crowded atmosphere of a dance in the gym, these events provide plenty of ways, away from large crowds, to connect with others. At these events, students can enjoy games and activities such as ping pong and board games at dances or pie-ing a teacher during Lobo Night. Feeling connected to one’s peers at school is incredibly important. You spend 10 months in school each year and building relationships with those around you will no doubt make it much more enjoyable and easy.
Additionally, attending sports games at Rocky is a great way to develop school spirit. Rocky has always been a school with a lot of pride, be it attending sports games decked out in coordinated colors and face paint, ready to do the Rollercoaster and cheer on their team, or flooding into the gym to watch the games, dances, and cheers at assemblies. Being ready to show your pride alongside the rest of the student body will no doubt strengthen your sense of belonging at RMHS.
At the beginning of my freshman year, I didn’t know much about Rocky and wasn’t quite used to the environment. After going to the Back-to-School and Homecoming assemblies, as well as the Homecoming football game, I felt much more connected to Rocky and looked forward not just to spirit weeks and doing the cheers at assemblies and games, but to going to school in general. Going to sports games is something I highly recommend to all students, especially those who may not have had the opportunity to experience Rocky’s school spirit or are looking for ways to feel more connected with the school.
Attending events at Rocky also gives students the opportunity to experience new things. Concerts, showcases, and theater productions put on by fellow students allow students to have experiences that will be less available and more expensive once they are out of high school. Past concerts and plays, attending events such as the wellness fair, or participating in clubs allow students to build skills and learn things specific to their interests that they wouldn’t have been able to otherwise and are also a great way to connect with those who have similar interests to you, something that can be harder in a classroom setting.
What is so special about the events and opportunities you can find at Rocky is that they aren’t nearly as easy to come by outside of school, so I strongly suggest that throughout the year, you stay up to date on the events Rocky is putting on and consider going to them!
