This year, the primary role of the drama club, which meets in the auditorium every Monday after school, is to prepare students for auditions and help students experience the performing arts.

The club is led by senior Leslie Schenk and is under staff direction of Elissa Larkin.

“It’s a great way to get to know people in all aspects of the drama department,” said  Schenk. “[The club] has created a family feeling that gives me more confidence on stage.”

As the Drama Club reevaluates their goals this year, they’ve agreed that their main focus will be to prepare actors for upcoming auditions. The club plans to host monologue workshops to prepare students for senior-directed acts in November. In the spring, students can get help choosing songs for musical auditions.

“We wanted to use the club as a way to build and fuel our department,” said Schenk “and we are hoping to establish a community of people who participate in all aspects of the productions.”

Drama Club will also continue the tradition of attending local theatre productions. Last year, they attended the Broadway tour of The Lion King in Denver and supported their peers at Midtown Arts Center in Lost in Yonkers.

Throughout the year, the Drama Club will be selling rubber bracelets promoting shows. These bracelets will provide fundraising for equipment and scholarships to the State Thespian Conference.

All students are invited, regardless of past theatre experience.
