Adopt a Family
Rocky Mountain High School is celebrating the 26th anniversary of Adopt A Family, a school-wide event started in 1996 by the Rocky peers to ensure families in the community would have a happy holiday season. Rocky homeroom classes are given a family to “adopt” for the holidays, collecting and purchasing items they need to make it through the busy season. This year Rocky has adopted 43 families in need.
The Adopt a Family program started in late November and runs through the 10th of December, with families picking up their goods on December 11.
Essential Items such as canned goods/dried food, household items, and personal care, and winter clothes the family may need are collected and donated by current students.
In addition, the family creates a wishlist of things they would like to get under their tree. Rocky students often go above and beyond to give these families great gifts.
Students run fundraisers and participate in school events to raise money for their families. Some this year included a dodgeball competition, no-shave November, and a movie night. All proceeds collected from these events were donated to Adopt A Family.
