Cuz I Love You
This year has been full of amazing new music. Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Khalid, and others have released stellar albums. Now Lizzo has been added to that list.
On April 19, Lizzo released her second album “Cuz I Love You.” She has been making music since 2013, but lately she’s been blowing up. She performed at Coachella last weekend and a couple of her singles have really put her name out there. She’s become one of my new favorite artists, and this album is absolutely amazing.
The album starts with the titular song, “Cuz I Love You.” This is a powerful song that was released with a video in February. All of her music is playful and not too serious and this one is like a funky ballad. I love it because it fun to belt out in the car, in the shower, in a crowd of people, wherever!
The next song is one of her new ones, “Like A Girl.” This one’s all about doing something “like a girl.” Usually that saying is a put down and a little sexist, but Lizzo is changing that. This dance song is all about being a strong and powerful like a girl.
The third track made me fall in love with Lizzo. This one is called “Juice” and also has been out since January. This one is such a summer dance song. It always puts me in a good mood and gets everyone smiling; I’m obsessed with it.
The next track “Soulmate” is all about being your own soulmate. It’s a fun dance song that will have you screaming the lyrics. It makes you feel like you don’t need anybody else. This one will be on repeat for the summer.
The fifth song titled “Jerome” is another ballad, but not a super serious one. It has an Amy Winehouse feel to it and shows off her voice more. I
can’t wait to learn all the lyrics and dramatically sing it in my car.
Her voice is raspy in the next track titled “Crybaby.” This is a funky feeling single and such a fun song. . I love this one because it’s makes you wanna move like you’re in the 80s.
This next song is called “Tempo (feat. Missy Elliott)” was the third release from her album and I haven’t stopped listening to it. It’s such a different song from the rest and is not as playful.t’s a dance song, but has a little bit of a club feel to it and Missy Elliot’s part is a perfect mix with this song.
The eighth track is titled “Exactly How I Feel (feat. Gucci Mane).” I feel like I’m smiling during this whole song because it’s so playful and just enjoyable to listen to. I did not expect her to have Gucci Mane on her album but it was a good choice.
The next song “Better In Color” is another playful one. This dance song is all about being comfortable in your skin, highlighting diversity in others. I love the feel of this one and the power in her voice.
The next song “Heaven Help Me” is a powerful playful track once again. Though many of the songs on her album are playful, none of them have the same sound. I like this one a lot and the production is a lot of fun.
The last track on Lizzos’ album is titled “Lingerie.” This one’s probably the slowest one–not sad, just more mellow than the rest. I think this one is beautiful and found it great song to end on.
I don’t have anything negative to say about this empowering, self-love album. . Each song is fun and enjoyable to listen to as there is one for each mood. I highly recommend giving the album a listen and I think it will keep you happy the whole time. Lizzo is an incredibly talented artist and I’m glad she’s getting some of the attention she deserves.
Lizzo will be playing at The Ogden Theatre in Denver at 8:00 pm on May 1st. For tickets see https://www.axs.com/events/368706/lizzo-tickets
