Big weekend for ACE
Rocky’s ACE and Tech Ed Program has a Makers Market fundraiser coming up on May 10-12, and the proceeds will go to causes that are close to Rocky’s heart: the Lobo fund, #students for unity, and a memorial scholarship in the honor of Rocky teacher Martha Haynes who passed away in October. The Makers Market fundraising event kicks off on Thursday, May 10, and goes through May 12.
ACE, is the only career and technical education program designed specifically for high risk/special population students. The program is responsible for the upkeep of the Rock Stop and the Geo Dome in addition to other tasks designed to teach marketable skills
Cole O’Brien, a student who’s been in the program since last year, said his favorite part of working in the ACE program is the gardening that he does in the Geodome. After he graduates this year, he hopes to continue gardening as a hobby.
On Thursday, May 10, ACE will have an open house and peace pole dedication to honor Martha Haynes, and the impact she made here at Rocky during her life. Teachers and students are welcome to stop by the Geodome during the day. Any Rocket Products bought during the open house will support the Martha Haynes Scholarship fund that will go to one of the kids in the Rocky ACE Program.
Then on Friday, May 11, there will be a staff and student open house in the Geodome showcasing the upcoming Makers Market and, again, all proceeds will got to the Martha Haynes Scholarship fund. Students and teachers can purchase gifts for Mother’s Day and check out all the handmade items.
On Saturday, May 12, ACE and their Rocket Products line will open the Makers Market to the public from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. They will sell all the products they’ve been working hard on this past semester. The sale will feature starter and container plants grown in Rocky’s Geodome, as well as t-shirts, sweatshirts, Rocky apparel, and home accessories.
This weekend is a great chance to honor Ms. Haynes and support our fellow ‘Bos. The Maker Market will be outside by the Geodome. If it rains, the Market will be moved to inside to The Commons.
