Review on Mug Cakes
You’ve all seen those Tasty Buzzfeed videos online, but have you ever tried any of the recipes out? The Highlighter staff decided to test four microwave mug cake recipes and rated them from 1-5 stars on taste, ease of preparation, and accessibility of ingredients.
Chocolate Hazelnut:
5/5 stars
After making it, it looks like a rich gooey double chocolate brownie with nutella spreading on top. We think you should top it off with ice cream. Everyone on staff loved this one. It was by far the most highly rated.

Cookies & Cream:
3.5/5 stars
This one had potential to be good, but it was a little bland. We also doubled the oreo cookies the recipe recommended because that amount just seemed unreasonable, but, I mean if you’re into bland cake then this recipe is definitely for you.

Birthday Cake:
2.25/5 stars
Due to the amount of sprinkles we added to it, the cake itself turned a grayish color and you couldn’t taste anything. If you attempt this recipe, we recommend adding more vanilla, maybe? Otherwise, this one was kind of disgusting. Nobody on staff liked this one except Mrs. White’s student teacher–who liked them all.

Strawberries & Cream:
2.5/5 stars
This tasted like special K sour freeze dried strawberries off brand cereal. This only got 2.5 stars because one of us isn’t capable of tasting and the other one just felt bad. If you’re thinking about attempting this recipe, we highly recommend…you just don’t, it’s not worth the three minutes.
