Chance The Rapper – Coloring Book

Weekly Music Review by yours truly, Jenn Ducett!

Coloring book, by Chance The Rapper, is one of the top grossing hip-hop album of 2016 so far, and I could definitely tell why.

The album came out in May this year with a top song “All We Got,” a collaboration between Kanye West, Chicago Children’s Choir, and himself.  The album got number 3 on the 50 top albums of 2016, Rolling Stones list.

Not only is it an amazing album, but Chance the Rapper uses the lyrics to address culturally significant issues. Overall, the album has a lot of controversial topics including protesting the police, the KKK, and racism in general. He uses it as a platform to tell a whole story about the messed up things that happen in the world.

Oooh, I just might share my next one with Keef. Got the industry in disbelief, they be asking for beef,” he says stating the fact that he thinks the industries methods and beliefs are flawed.

Overall the sound of the album is very expressive, sometimes with the beat being very downtempo and sometimes very uptempo, depending on the song.  The juxtaposition of tempo through the album shows Chance The Rapper’s passion about each individual topic. It  has a lot of rhythmic base and an almost bluesy feel playing as a common motif  throughout the album.

This album was great, and not only did it show many different sides that Chance the Rapper’s diverse sound, but it had a deeper meaning as well, which I love to hear in music.

My favorite song from this album is Angel, because of the fast and fun tempo. It’s really easy to listen to this song and just dance around for a while. Although this song has very deep meaning, it has a very joyful beat.

This album would be great to listen to if I was working out or just wanting to jam to some really good music. I strongly suggest listening to this album.

It’s a 4 out of 5!
