I was “bit” when I saw the original vampire movie starring Michael B. Jordan and Haliee Steinfeld, called “Sinners.” This movie is in the top tier of movies I’ve seen, with plenty of action and also warm funny moments.
“Sinners” came out on April 17, 2025. The movie is a horror movie and rated R for mature audiences, but it isn’t as scary as your typical horror movie. There are, however, a couple times you might get jump scared. I would categorize this movie as a little more of an action comedy.
According to Rotten Tomatoes 97% of critics voted it a “fresh movie” and 95% of the audience liked the movie. “Sinners” has gained a 4.7 rating from the audience according to Rotten Tomatoes.
“Sinners” is my favorite movie right now, however, it is subject to change. I believe “Sinners” will be my favorite non Marvel or DC movie for a long time.
The plot of the story is incredibly meaningful. The movie takes place in 1932 when twin brothers return to their hometown after working and getting rich in Chicago. They return to open a juke joint and give locals a place to hangout and party. This is interrupted when a group arrives at the juke joint and changes the brothers’ path.
This movie is full of flawless acting with actors like Hailee Steinfeld, Michael B. Jordan, and Omar Benson Miller. Miller is perfectly cast for this movie. As is Jordan playing both the twins. The twins are both World War I veterans who formerly worked with a gang in Chicago doing all sorts of crime to get money.
“Sinners” is a suspenseful movie. It takes a little bit to build the background but has some action during the build up. All of this takes place before the main part of the movie.
There is a surprising twist to the movie which ends up being what the whole thing is about. No spoilers! I did no research going into this movie and I recommend the same for you, as it makes it a more enjoyable and surprising movie.
During opening weekend “Sinners” made $48
million in the US alone and $63 million globally. As of May 16th “Sinners” has grossed $316.8 million dollars; the movie is still in theaters and has about a month before it gets released on streaming services.
“Sinners” has a run time of 2 hours, 17 minutes. Every second of this movie is worth your time. It has not been released on any streaming services as of yet, but is said to be releasing sometime in June.
This is one of the greatest movies ever made. In a couple years I believe it’ll be a staple in the film industry because of how good it is. If you haven’t already seen “Sinners” go to the theater right now and get bit–just as I did.
