Peach Fuzz was once known as a homecoming tradition, but at Rocky the tradition had gone away. However, it returned last year and is back again in 2025–as an end of year event.
This year’s tournament was organized by Kenna Wagner.
“Peach Fuzz was a lot of fun to put together. It was pretty easy and I hope people had fun,” Kenna said, adding, “It was good for everyone to get together to play volleyball. The best part was that most of the players didn’t even know how to play.”
If she could change one thing for next time she wishes that “more juniors would sign up so that there would be more teams.”
This year’s tournament lacked Junior v. Senior matches, which is usually the final to determine the “best grade.”
This year there were seven total teams: five senior teams and two junior teams.
The senior teams were “Da Minionz,” coached by Lily Rainbolt, “Down and Dirty,” coached by Kinley Margison, “Fuzzballs,” coached by Sierra Kerwin, “Black(out) Ball(ers),” coached by Avry Mackenzie, and “Fusion 10,” coached by Kenna Wanger.
The junior teams were “Glitter Diggers,” coached by Abby Duran and Taylor Diaz, and “Aces in Your Faces,” coached by Jenna Siener, Haven Gaustad, and Bryce Reisler.
The winners of this year’s tournament were the “Black(out) Ball(ers).” The team consisted of seniors Gavin Mingus, Devin Griffith, Ben Linstedt, Kanyon Schrom, Nolan Schleisman, Cohen Rozell, Lorenzo Paustian, Aidan LaGuardia, Nate Schoenbauer, Rylan Fankhauser, and Zach Bucholt.
Lorenzo Paustain, a member of the “Black(out) Ball(ers),” said that it was “pretty hype to win Peach Fuzz. It was a good team effort.”
“The energy was pretty exciting” he said, referring to excitement among all the teams when getting a good hit or winning a long point.
Lorenzo wishes that the bracket was constructed so that “the seniors would play each other until there was a winner and the juniors would do the same and then they would play one another in the final.”
He also wished that there were adult referees instead of the volleyball players that officiated the games this year.
The seniors hope that the tradition lives on to next year as this has been a good way for many to celebrate the end of the year and to foster healthy competition.
