As the whistle blows for the Wrestling season the grind starts. With the season starting, there are several up and coming wrestlers to watch and matches to look for.
With the previous leaders Kaemon Cobb and Jesse Thompson graduating, the team looks for new leaders this year to help the team improve and lead them into battle.
One of the the top wrestlers to watch this year is senior Bryce Sanford who has been putting in the work all year non stop. Bryce started to emerge as a leader last year, motivating the team and teaching the younger kids the ropes.
“My goal for wrestling season is to place in state, and my goal for the team is to have a positive dual record,” Bryce said.
Yusuf Muhammad, 11th, is another one of the top wrestlers. He is a multi-sport athlete who excels in football as well. Yusuf has got the rough end in wrestling; he’s gotten a fair amount of shots at being varsity and definitely took advantage of it, but has gotten stuck in the best weight class on the team every year– often having the best wrestler in his weight class. Now he’s running the show and has a real shot at making state.
“My goal is to make it to state. My goal for the team is for at least half of varsity to make it to state,” Yusuf said.
Cormac Loughlin took Rocky by storm last year, not only for being on varsity as a freshman, but for making it all the way to state. Cormac is going into his sophomore year even better. He’s improved over the summer to make another run in state.
“I want to make it to state and win a match. I also want to win a couple tournaments. I want the team to send more kids to state than we did last year and also place highly in a couple tournaments,” Cormac said.
All these wrestlers make great leaders and will lead the team to victory.
There are so many duals to watch this year and fans should go to all of them. The dual to start off the season will be a fun one at Wellington on December 5. Other dual’s to watch are against Poudre, Fossil, and Collins.
Rocky got new wrestling mats for duals and they will be making their appearance at the first home dual this year.
Rocky also got new singlets with a completely new design–singlet is what wrestlers wear during their matches, like a uniform.
The wrestling team has been putting in work day in and day out and are itching for the season to start November 18th.
