Ladies and gentlemen, the moment has finally come–Shawn Mendes is here to save 2020 with his brand new single “Wonder,” the featured track for his new album dropping in December. 

Over the past two days, Shawn surprised the Mendes Army with a couple of teasers on his Instagram regarding the new single. With chords from the song to clips of the video, Mendes got a very positive response from his fanbase.

Reiana Hughes, Mendes fanatic, stated that Shawn’s new song is one his best songs so far. “It really shows that he opened up his feelings through the music,” Hughes added. 

The message behind the heartfelt ballad stuck with many, especially junior Linnea Gustafson. “The line ‘do I speak my truth or do I filter how I feel’ stood out to me because everyone is so affected by society’s opinion and that forces them to ‘filter how they feel’ and not truly be themselves.” 

Mendes truly portrays the emotional aspect of the chorus in the song through the artistic take on the music video. The video follows him on a train ride, wandering through a forest, and expressively singing on the edge of a cliff in the pouring rain, once again, striving toward the chorus, “Right before I close my eyes/The only thing that’s on my mind/Been dreaming that you feel it, too/I wonder what it’s like to be loved by you.”

I think that the video did an amazing job showing what was going through Shawn’s mind as he was trying to imagine what it would be like to be loved by this person.

Overall, this song blew my expectations out of the water in terms of what I was expecting from the release; I would 10/10 recommend this song. Make sure to keep an eye out for the “Wonder” album dropping on December 4th. You can listen to “Wonder” here.
