Rocky is historically dominant in baseball and last year was no exception.
The team finished the season as state runner-up, losing four to nine in the championship game against Cherokee Trail.
“I was really proud of where we finished up last year,” said head coach Scott Bullock. “Our coaches and players did a really good job of just hanging in there and fighting the good fight. We’ve got a lot of guys back with a lot of valuable experience [from] last year.”
Senior John Sorenson, the only current player on the team when Rocky won their last state title in 2014, will be a key player for the team. Kalen Hammer, Spencer Gendreau, and the rest of the seniors on the roster will also be leaders.
The team opens their 2017 season against the defending state champs Cherokee Trail at Coors Field before heading to an elite four-game tournament in North Carolina.
According to Bullock, offseason training has been “as good an offseason as we’ve ever had” and the team is looking to regain the title of state champion.
“We should be battling for a conference championship, no question,” added Bullock. “We should be battling for a state championship. We have the type of baseball team that should be in the mix.”
