Oktoberfest Returns to Rocky on Friday

At lunch on Friday, October 23, the Rocks will be transformed into an annual celebration of German heritage and tradition when the German Club creates Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest has been a part of Rocky for 21 years and the German Club will be continuing this age-old tradition on Friday, September 23, at the Rocks Commons from 10:40 to 12:40. Join the celebration of Oktoberfest and learn about German culture, dancing and music, sample Bavarian Style Bratwurst and freshly brewed Coopersmith’s Root Beer. You can also treat yourself to imported German gummy bears, and learn facts about Oktoberfest in a student created slideshow. Food will be reasonably priced and fresh.

Oktoberfest, a traditional Germanic harvest festival, originating in the early 1800’s celebrating the royal wedding of Fraulein Therese and the young Prinz Ludwig. It began as a horse race and huge public festival, then grew to include agricultural exhibits showcasing successful harvest seasons, highlighting the many varieties of beer and sausage recipes from local vendors.

Modern day versions of Oktoberfest are not only the most popular of all fall festivals in Bavaria, Southern Germany, but are widely celebrated around the world where German influence has made an impact.
