Track and Field

Starting on March 11, the track teams will start competing in hopes to better last year’s results and create a name for the program.

The Lobos return a solid core of girls from last year’s fourth-place state team, while the boys look to send a new group to the championship meet.

“I feel like we had a very successful season last year,” said head coach Jamie Mackenzie. “We were very young, but still extremely competitive. . . I think we will come out of the gates much more confident this season.”

The teams will be looking to match or better their results from last year. For the girls, that means a top two finish in conference and a top five placing at state. The boys will be aiming for a top five in conference as well as a finish in the top 30 at state.

Defending shot put state champion and discus runner-up Gabriella McDonald will lead the team. Returning state qualifiers Tate Thornton (pole vault, long jump, triple jump), Callin Naddy (800, 1600), and Myles Hilbert (high jump) are also expected to contribute. Mackenzie also credited Alistair Dunnington, Derek Dalton, Dalton Schroeder, Chris Cathcart, Rebecca Erickson, and Laila Adl as athletes to watch.

“My main performance goal [for the team] is to score at least one point in every conference event,” added Mackenzie.
